Veteran racer, Dean Cumbee of Supply, NC, started from the pole position and led all 15 laps in the Bell and Bell Vintage Modified Series event Saturday night July 17th at Carolina Speedway, Lakeview, SC. Kenneth McGee, starting on the outside pole, briefly grabbed the lead a the start, but Cumbee regained the lead exiting turn two of lap one, never relinquishing the top spot. McGee, of Pilot Mountain, NC finished a close 2nd and Bobby Williamson of Shallotte, NC was third. Cumbee's win was the first Bell & Bell series victory for team owner Jerry Shiel also of Supply, NC.

Bill Tripp of Shallotte, NC, driving his familliar #21 '36 Chevy coach, cruised to his 5th six-cylinder sportsman event of the season. Tripp led all 15 laps and was followed by Jim Wilmore of Fayetteville,NC.

Many thanks to the vintage teams that made the second trip, in as many weeks, as this event was a rain-forced reschedule from July 10. Rain, again, became an issue, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Carolina Speedway staff, the entire racing program was successfully completed after a brief early evening shower.
